User Access Manager – Bugs
In den letzten Tagen erreichten mich mehrere Mails bezüglich des UAM und Problemen im hinblick auf Wordpress 2.8. Leider habe ich im Moment nicht wirklich die Zeit mich um das Plugin zu kümmern und falsche Versprechungen möchte ich ungern machen. Ich denke ich werde frühstens in zwei Wochen die Zeit dazu finden mich hierum zu kümmern. Ich hoffe auf euer Verständniss.

Sorry to bother you.
Your plugin is brilliant, but I’m having a problem with RSS Feeds.
I’m using UAM 0.9.1.2 with WordPress 2.7.1. In the UAM Settings, I have selected ‘Protect Feed = Yes’.
Most posts on the site are restricted to Groups A&B. A small number of posts are restricted to Group C.
I think that:
(1) Members of Groups A&B or C who sign up for RSS feeds from the site only receive feeds of posts that are not restricted to specific use rgroups. They do not receive feeds of posts that should be visible to their user group.
(2) Anyone who signs up for RSS feeds of comments receives feeds of all comments, even on posts that they are not entitled to see because they do not belong to the correct Group.
Am I doing something wrong?

Hi,
Love your plugin, but I’m now having problems with my media library. Photo’s disappeared, in posts, pages, and the library. Updating/editing the posts didn’t help and uploading new ones won’t show them (everything seems to work, pictures just don’t show).
Playing with settings hasn’t helped either (locking files on/off, recursive on/off etc.).
When I deactivated the UAM, everything was back to normal, so that confirmed that UAM is interfering with the media.
I’m using WP 2.8.1 & UAM 0.9.1.2.
Truly hope you can find the time to look into this, because my site is now not “private” anymore.

ich setze auch WP 2.81 ein und hatte Probleme mit „schon gesendeten Headern“
Ich habe soeben alle Sprachdateien aus dem UAM Verzeichnis gelöscht und nun habe ich keine Fehlermeldungen mehr. Ich hatte auch mal die franz. Sprachdatei in …de_DE umbenannt, doch das brachte auch keinen Erfolg.
Meine Lösung ist zwar vllt. nicht die optimalste Lösung, aber zumindest kann ich UAM jetzt nutzen bzw. testen (unter WP 2.71 lief alles normal)
So, nun wünsche ich dir noch viel Erfolg bei deinen Dingen die dich vom Plugin entwickeln abhalten

Have a look in the upload dir, may there is the .htaccess file still present (after deactivating locking files) – delete the file.
I think Alex will do an update and you can use the UAM but with out file locking, for a short time.

Hallo Alex,
wie meine Vorredner schon sagten, das Plugin ist unersetzbar. Leider sind sehr viele Fehler mit dem “Schon gesendetem Header” vorhanden.
Ist wirklich schade. Ich würde mich sehr freuen wenn dir dort eine Lösung einfällt.
PS.: Problem ist erst vorhanden seit ich von WP2.8 auf WP2.8.1 aktuallisiert habe.
Vielleicht hilft das ja.

Leider nimmt mich im Moment mein Studium wirklich ein. Aber wie ich schon im Post sagte werde ich hoffentlich bald Zeit finden (ich gehe davon aus das das so in 2 Wochen sein wird) den UAM bezüglich der Bugs zu überarbeiten. Aber versprechen kann ich leider nichts.

Das kann ich verstehen.
Kleiner Test von mir: Es kam der Fehler das der header bereits vorhanden sei. (user-access-manager.php line 60)
-Also habe ich da mal nach geguckt. Du hast da folgenden Echo befehl:
echo load_plugin_textdomain(‘user-access-manager’, ‘wp-content/plugins/user-access-manager’);
Ich verstehe nicht ganz warum du den an dieser Stelle machst. Anscheinend wird nur eine ausgabe, also ein Echo gemacht.
Zum Test habe ich den mal auskommentiert. Und siehe da, keine Fehler mehr.
Ich habe nur getestet ob das Plugin zu aktivieren ist, Ein angemeldeter user die gesperrten seiten sehen kann und ein unangemeldeter User die Seiten nicht sehen kann.
Das hat soweit geklappt. Vielleicht ist das ja schon die Lösung des Problems.
Wie gesagt, ich weiß nicht ob du mit dieser Textzeile noch andere Sachen verbindest.

@Nils: no, the .htaccess in the uploads was already deleted.
I’m now trying Florian’s suggestion, (as far as I can understand the German), but I am not totally convinced yet. Looks promising, though.

Commenting out the
echo load_plugin_textdomain(’user-access-manager’, ‘wp-content/plugins/user-access-manager’);
does indeed remove the errors. The media show, and can be managed, and User Access seems to work; visitors see only the unrestricted pages, and logged in users see it all.
It does have a side effect, though: the language settings are disabled!
Locking files is still a mystery. Any visitor will get a pop-up asking for a password and make the site unviewable.
Guess we have to wait for Alex finish his study (good luck with that, btw)

Hi Milly,
try to activate the .htaccess File protection in the user acess manager settings site.
Then Save settings.
Now uncheck the .htaccess File protection again.
I have had the same error first. But with this few steps it works still good.

I also took the comment away from the echo load ….. again, because I wanted my Dutch translation in there (anyone care for that one? it’s ready), and that too, seems to work.

Hey, sorry to bother… im having a little problem with the plugin.
I cant seem to be able to restrict write access to users based on category.
I have two categories
State 1
State 2
and two users
admin (admin role)
John (editor role)
and two user access groups
State1 – assigned to category State1 and only to user admin
State2- assigned to category State2 and access to both users
My problem comes when Im logged in as John, I cant edit posts that are assigned to State1 category (which is the expect behaviour) but it does allow me to post new entries under the State1 category… why is that?? State1 user group is set up to Read Access restricted to only group users and John doesnt belong to this group… please help!

Super plugin! I’m trying to use it together with WPML plugin, but I keep seeing the following message where subpages ought to appear when there are no subpages. If there are subpages, everything works great. I’ve also posted this question (along with another user) to the WPML support forum (http://forum.wpml.org/topic.php?id=212&replies=5#post-1304).

Hello,
Your plugin seems to have some great features, but I’m trying to use it with WP2.8.2 now. I’ve used User Access Manager 0.9.1.3 and after overwriting the template.php, a lot of my options dissapear for editting posts and pages in Wordpress.
Do I still need to overwrite the template.php file? Because without doing that, the users added to a certain group are not able to edit the pages that belong to that group.
Or am I missing something, and will there be a WP2.8 version soon?

hi great plugin..but i’ve discovered a bug.. i’ll try to explain it here with my poor english:
suppose that i create a group called News that contains all users that can write news in the news category..(so i’ve settend only write restriction..anyone can read it from the website)
..i add an user eg. Peter as author to the News group..
here the bug: when Peter goes to write a new post.. he can check other categories eg. Sport Articles and he will post an article in Sport Articles category .. it is wrong!! he couldn’t write in this category .. (after the article’s add he can’t edit it!) can you fix it..and notify me?! ..
other little issue:
can you add a little code to define the default category for the group? because if i write a new post and don’t check the category worpress posts it in Uncategorized :[
here what i’ve in mind:

and when i will
Add New Post as a member of MyGroup i will have automatically checked the category News! and if i’ll don’t check another one WP will publish my new post in News category

Hi there
I’ve been using your UAM plugin, which is GREAT – but now with the latest version of Wordpress (2.8 and above) it has “broken” certain things – for example, in WP 2.8.4, if I have this plugin activated then I cannot add photos or files to any pages/posts. But if I deactivate the plugin, all returns to normal.
Are you planning an update to this plugin for Wordpress 2.8.4?

habe jetzt erst das tolle Plugin entdeckt – großartig! Habe jetzt ein Problem:
Ich habe einen Blog (komplett geschützt über das Plugin “Members only”), und innerhalb dieses Blog möchte ich jetzt einen weiteren geschützten Bereich aufmachen (auf den nur eine kleine Gruppe der gesamten Leser zugreifen darf), was ich mit UAM gelöst habe. Wenn ich jetzt in den Gruppeneinstellungen “Wordpress-Rollen Zugehörigkeit” den Haken bei “author” setze und speichere, ist der Haken danach wieder weg.
Warum ich das brauche: Einige der Gruppenmitglieder haben nur Abonnentenstatus im Blog, sollen aber in dem geschützten Bereich (und nur dort) aber Autoren-Status haben. Läßt sich das mit diesem Haken überhaupt bewerkstelligen?

… und gleich nochmal. Scheinbar ist die Einstellung übernommen worde, macht aber nicht das, was ich damit bezweckt habe. Es ist scheinbar eine weitere Einstellung, sodaß man auch über die Rollen den Zugriff bschränken kann – aber eben nicht für die Gruppe abweichende Rollen damit festlegt. Schade…. Gibts dafür in UAM eine andere Möglichkeit?

Ich hab ein riesen Problem mit dem PlugIn.
Ich habe die NextGen Gallery installiert und diese läuft auch einwandfrei, sobald ich jedoch UAM im Backend aktiviere, verschwinden alle Bilder und Slideshows im Frontend.
What’s going on there?
Für jede Hilfe wär ich über dankbar!

I use UAM and NEXTGEN Gallery PlugIn.
When UAM is activated all pictures and the slideshow will not appaer.
It is very urgent, for any help i would be very thankful.

Hi there,
I’ve tried a couple of times to use UAM, but after I add the first User Access Group, the options page for new groups stops after the ‘Role Affiliation’ checkboxes – there is no way to save the new User Access fgroups after the very first one.
What I’m trying to do is have a set of users (paid subscribers) who can access all content, and otehrs who can
(a) access fresh copies of some pages; and
(b) access dated copies of subscriber-only posts and pages (done by at the page-generation layer – if the user belongs to the non-subscriber group, a date variable that selects the research data is set to “current_date() – interval 1 month” in the mySQL script that genertes the research).
Ayhow – your plugin would be exactly what I needed, is only I could get it to work. (I have exactly the same problem with Category Templates).

deleted the call and the script works fine – but only because i don’t want to work with categories.

Anyone who has problems with uploads (also Nextgen) not working after installing this plugin should disable the file-protection function and delete the .htacess-file this plugin creates in your uploadsfolder.
Did work for me.

Hi, great plugin! I’m using v0.9.1.3 which seems to be working fine with WP v2.8.5 and the Thesis theme.
Just one small bug I’ve picked up on though: When you “Add access group” you have the option of selecting one or more role affiliations to go with it by ticking the checkboxes. But when you look back at that access group later (by clicking it’s name in the list), the relevant role affiliation tick boxes are not ticked anymore. It is therefore difficult to see which roles were assigned to the access group. Also, to remove a role profile you have to tick the checkbox (this obviously has no affect if it was already previously selected) and then un-tick again fore clicking the update button. When you un-tick the check box, the number of users then drops down as expected. It just needs fixing so that the previsouly selected role affiliations remain ticked when you go back into the access group page.
Hopefully this is an easy fix. You can see the lugin in operation on my website http://www.jos.co.uk.

vielen Dank für das tolle Plugin. Ich habe ein Problem. Im geschlossenen Bereich möchte ich in/zu den Beiträgen PDF Datein hinterlegen. Diese werden aber nicht “versteckt”. Unter den Einstellungen habe ich bei zu sperrende Dateitypen “,pdf” hinzugefügt.
Das klappt aber nicht und es werden auch keine PDFs geöffent. Ich lade diese über die Mediathek hoch.

First of all i’d like to mention that this is a GREAT Plugin, we are using this system in a customer support site we created with WP.
Does anyone provide support for new features for this plugin?
Here is what we’re looking for:
- Adding users’ company (data added in new field created in the wp_usermeta table when a new user register’s) next to their name:

– In the same user management area, the ability to sort / filter by company or username when checking off members to add them to a group.

There seem to be a bug when I create a new posting that is private to a specific group of users and if that posting is the most recent one in this category. If i am a user who does not have access to that post and go on the category page in which the new post was added, it gives me a page not found error 404.
When I add a newer post it does not give me that error and displays the posts correctly.
Please help!

Hi you have a great plugin!
I am running WordPress MU 2.8.6 and plugin Version 0.9.1.3.
I have set up categories and user groups
Issue:
On the UAM admin page I select the group I want to assign right to.
The area under:
Categories (expand) Contains 0 of 5 categories
But only two show up out of the five.
Any idea what I’m missing here?

Ich hoffe es ist ok, dass ich auf Deutsch schreibe!
Zunächst mal muss ich festhalten, dass UAM brilliant ist – wirklich ein geniales Plugin. Ich bin kein (guter) Programmierer, aber ich glaube, ich habe 2 Bugs entdeckt – einen schlimmeren und einen weniger schlimmen. (Ich glaub aber der schlimme lässt sich leicht ausbessern)
Der schlimmere:
Ich habe mein Wordpress in einem Unterverzeichnis meiner Domain gespeichert, das heißt, ich erreiche meine Seite zwar unter http://www., aber die Dateien sind in http://www./wordpress/. Wenn ich in der Mediathek eine Datei hochlade, wird mir eine Datei-URL erzeugt, die so aussieht: http://www.?getfile=. Diese URL funktioniert nicht. Was funktioniert ist http://www./wordpress/?getfile=. Aber immer händisch ausbessern ist mühselig, deshalb musste ich jetzt den Schutz von Dateien ausschalten.
Der weniger schlimme:
Eigentlich brauch ich UAM nur um eine Kategorie zu sperren: Die Kategorie “intern” sollte nur für Autoren sein. Also hab ich auch nur eine UAM-Regel erstellt. Seltsamer Weise hat das zu unerwarteten Fehlern geführt. Erst als ich eine zweite UAM-Regel erstellt habe, bei der ich Lesezugriff: alle, Schreibzugriff: alle eingestellt habe, hat alles so funktioniert wie es sein sollte.
Zur Info: ich nutze WP 2.8.6

Using WordPress 2.8.6 and UAM 0.9.1.3
I also want to menation that this plugin is great.
But unfortinatly I have one major problem when using this plugin.
Example I create page galery and in UAM I create addition group where I allow to see this galery only to registered users.
Rights where assigned and working, but problem accures when someone is editing this page (adding galery, text e.t.c). It somehow owerwrite access rights and it becomes wisible to everyone.
Can some one help me fix this error?

Das Plugin ist toll!
Aber sobald man mit der Mediatek arbeiten will ist’s Vorbei.
Sobald das Pluginaktiv ist, werden die Thunbnails nicht mehr angezeigt. Auch im Content eingebettete Bilder nicht mehr.
Das Problem scheint darin zu liegen das die URL’s zu den Thumbnails nicht mehr stimmen. Es wird alles abgeschnitten auser der Dateinamen selber.
Da ich aber bestimmte Medien öffentlich und andere nur mit mind. Abonentenrolle zugänglich machen will, kann ich das Plugin leider so nicht gebrauchen.
Schade, denn etwas vergleichbares habe ich bisher nicht gefunden
Gibt es vielleicht schon einen Fix hierfür? Ich nutze WP 2.9 Test mit WP 2.8.1 waren leider auch erfolglos.

Hab ein Problem mit diesem Plugin:
Wenn ich es gleichzeitig mit dem Plugin YAPB aktiviere, bekomme ich:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function get_userdata() in /var/www/htdocs/mi/178/leopoldstadt/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/user-access-manager/user-access-manager.php on line 3208
Wäre schön, wenn es dafür eine Lösung gibt, weil beide Plugins einzigartige Funktionen haben und eigentlich unersetzbar sind.

UAM is a great plugin!
It works great for restricting access to some pages but not all of them. However, for some reason the sidebar only appears on the home page if you are not logged in. Do you know how I can get the sidebar to show up on non-restricted pages?

Funktioniert irgendeine Version des Plugins mit WP 2.3.1? Das einzige, was ich machen will, ist, eine gesamte Kategorie auf privat zu setzen.

Hi,
I have a terrible problem with your feed. We have some exclusive resources protected by your plugin. I have discovered that the protected posts are listed on RSS feeds with their protected content included! No need to login, anyone can get the paid content. Can you please advise how to prevent protected content from being listed on RSS feeds?
